A downloadable game for Windows

Created for Micro Jam 22: Desert, but not completed within the submission deadline. Had a lot of fun with it though, and have plans to continue working on it. Programmed entirely in C++ using the SDL2 library for multimedia/platform code.

Controls

  • Move: Arrow Keys
  • Advance Dialogue/Close Trade Menu: Space
  • Click to buy and sell in the trade menu

Game Rules

  •  Turns begin with a movement of your caravan. Each movement reduces your water level by 1 and reduces your food by 1 for each member of your caravan.
  • Moving to an oasis replenishes your water to the max, and your capacity of water is determined by the number of members of your caravan.
  • Moving to a city or caravanserai allows you to buy and sell items within that marketplace. It also replenishes your water supply. The price of goods varies between each city, and responds to supply changes.
  • Buying a camel increases the population of your caravan by 1.
  • With each movement comes a chance of being attacked by bandits, who will steal some gold from you. The chance increases with the total value of your inventory.
  • Buying swords decreases this chance, as well as the amount of gold stolen. Swords are only effective up to the amount that is equal to the population of your caravan.
  • Moving to a treasure tile will give you a random amount of treasure.

The game is quite rough around the edges, and crashes sometimes. A lot of things need to be balanced and complexified in some key ways. Additionally, I had a few features I want to add in the future, including:

  • A travelling merchant who moves every three turns and trades goods between cities.
  • Regional variance in the supply and demand of various goods, instead of each city being randomly configured independent of its location.
